AI’s capabilities to duplicate various famous artists’ voices and musical styles are causing significant concerns among musicians and professionals in the audio industry. Many fear the technology could infringe on their copyright and threaten their livelihoods. Along with creating new beats quite easily, AI is also being employed to master tracks quickly, posing challenges to human artists. Trade union Equity is advocating for new legal protections for professionals as AI starts to encroach on their jobs. Spotifying is using AI to not only curate music but also generate it — a double-edged sword that’s causing unease about the future of human-generated music. An upside, however, is AI’s potential to augment human creativity in composing and producing music. Currently, the music industry is grappling with how to integrate AI in a way that enhances rather than replaces the human elements of artistry.
